Sri Lanka made a rousing start to the second and final cricket Test against Bangladesh as they ended at 314 for 4 on the first day as the home team bowlers toiled with limited success yesterday.
Openers Nishan Madushka and Dimuth Karunaratne laid the foundation by putting on 96 runs for the first wicket that ensured Sri Lanka gain a firm hold on the contest having already taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Madushka looked to be shaping up well for a big innings but was run-out in the 29th over for 57 which had six fours.
But Kusal Mendis and Karunaratne steadied the innings further by adding 114 runs for the second wicket before Karunaratne was bowled by Hasan Mahmud for 86 made with the help of eight fours and a six.
Mendis continued to motor along to a contribution of 93 and lost his wicket after hitting 11 fours and a six.
Dinesh Chandimal took over the run-making and was unbeaten on 34 with two fours and two sixes at the end of the first day with Sri Lanka using up 90 overs and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva not out on 15.
