We move from one milestone to another to remind you of the rich history of the Russian School of Ballet and Dancing.
Ballet is one of the main disciplines the Russian House in Colombo offers out of the vast cultural heritage of Russia. The Ballet School was founded over two decades ago under the patronage of Mikhail Usinov, the then Director of the Russian Centre, Chief Executive Officer, Buddhapriya Ramanayaka with Founding Instructor, Galina Pleashakova.
The school was conceptualised by the Cultural Officer of the Russian House in 2001, Chandi Aluvihare, starting its activities with four little girls, all eager to learn and master the art of ballet. Now over a hundred students are enjoying the beautiful dance of ballet under the guidance of 12 qualified senior, junior and assistant teachers.
March 20, 2024 marked another milestone where the doors to the new ballet studio 3 was opened. What makes this even more special is that this room has been named after the two Oxana’s, namely, Dr. Oxana Karnovich, a respected ballet examiner and Oxana Iseava, who conducted the mass scale professional ballet workshop in August 2023 and who has held a special place in since then.
This event was combined with the certificate awards ceremony for the High Scorers of the Russian Classical Ballet Examination 2023, which was held last year, and the 12 winners who secured the highest score. The awarding of certificates and gifts to the high scorers and encouraging the students by the chief guest at the event was graced by Russian Ambassador for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Levan Dzhagaryan along with the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, Maria L. Popova, Head of Russian House in Colombia, teachers, high scorers, parents and staff of Russian Centre in Colombo.
