Provinces on number plates out

Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardena has instructed the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe to do away with the double English letters (WP/ NP etc) indicating the province in the vehicle identification number plates.

The Minister has taken this step to avoid the inconvenience caused to those having to incur more expenses and time to call at the Department of Motor Traffic to change the number plate indicating the province in the case of inter-provincial vehicle sales.
