My ambitions

3 September, 2017

I am Lihini Wijesekara and I study in Grade Seven at Lyceum International School, Wattala. I have many ambitions. Once I thought of being a veterinarian, a doctor for animals. Then I thought I could be a pilot, because I love to fly. Then I thought I could be an astronomer, for I am very interested in astrology. My father said that I could be all, but it is better to be a pilot. But then, I thought that if I could be all, I would not have time to spend leisurely. So I thought twice, and realised that if I become a veterinarian, I could save animals. I also thought that if I could become a pilot, I could fly from one place to another on my airplane. So finally I made up my mind - 'I shall be both a pilot and a veterinarian’.

Call it what you may, everyone dreams of being someone or doing something different when they grow up. Some dream of being astronauts, rocket scientists, space explorers… Some dream of being clowns, comedians and running away to a circus. Still others wish to be lawyers, doctors, cricketers or superstars.

The sky, as they say, is the limit to your dreams… But what’s the fun if you keep it all to yourself? So why not put pen to paper, or finger to keyboard, and share with us what you dream of being, when you grow up? You can mail your dreams, along with your photograph to husnakghs@ yahoo.com or send it by snailmail to ‘Junior Observer’, No. 35, D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10.
