College of General Practitioners Annual Academic Sessions

The College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka will hold its 43rd Annual Academic Sessions on October 14, 15 and 22, on the theme: “Empathy, safety, standards: the strengths of general practice”.

The Precongress is scheduled for October 14 (Saturday) 8 am to 2pm at the Family Health Bureau, Colombo.

The Main Congress would be at Waters Edge on the 15th morning (Sunday) from 8 am starting with the Dr. B D J de Silva Oration 2017 on, “Implementing Family Medicine concepts in a primary care institution: An experience from Southern Sri Lanka by Dr. Sanka Randenikumara Medical Officer in charge of Primary Medical Care Unit, Amugoda.

This will be followed by a plenary by Prof Piyanjali Soysa, Professor in Clinical Psychology on, “Is Empathy essential in a doctor?: A critique”.

Dr. Shreen Wilattgamuwa Family Physician will be speaking on “Sexual Issues and Deviations-Detection and Direction”. Prof. Frank Jones would share his views on “GP training - Australian perspective, Post-doctoral fellowship training”.

Other topics are, Global Trends in General Practice, Legal issues, Genetic testing, Bariatric surgery, Art Therapy, Sports Medicine, Treating substance abuse and Misuse, and Men’s Health update. Ethical dilemmas and Emergencies in General Practice would be dealt with.

The Post Congress is on “Cosmetology in General Practice” on the 22nd afternoon (Sunday) at the SLMA Auditorium from 2pm -5pm. Registration is open.
