Foreigner with cocaine held at BIA

A foreign national who was trying to smuggle 2.6 kilograms of cocaine worth Rs. 30 million into the country, was arrested by customs officials yesterday at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

According to customs sources, the suspect has been identified as a citizen of Guinea Bissau, a West African country. It was revealed that the 28-year-old suspect had travelled from Nigeria to Qatar prior to arriving in Sri Lanka on Qatar Airways flight QR 664 at 10.00 am yesterday morning.

The suspect had concealed the drug haul in a false bottom of his luggage.

Officials led by Customs Additional Director General Stanley Senaratne and Director M.A Karunaratne are investigating.
