Minister of Justice and Prison Reforms, Thalatha Atukorale said that Cabinet approval was granted to include Law as a subject in the school curriculum from January 7, 2019.
Law as a subject was a long-felt need in the country’s educational sphere and a triumph in the Government’s efforts to include subjects which are of a contemporary need to scores of students in the country,” she said.
Atukorale said that a knowledge of the Law from school-age was neglected by successive regimes, and added that its introduction to the school curriculum will address that shortcoming. Students armed with a knowledge of Law from its basics to the Penal Code would also enable the Government to drastically reduce the rising crime wave in the country.
