The Seethawaka Wet Zone Botanical Garden

27 August, 2023

The Seethawaka Botanical Garden is in the Colombo District close to Avissawella in the village of Illukovita. To reach this garden, you have to turn right from the Puwakpitiya station and travel nearly 3km along the Puwakpitiya-Thummodara road. Then you can find the garden on the right.

The construction of this garden commenced in 2008 and it was opened to the public in October 2014. The Government launched this park to conserve threatened, wet zone endemic plants for future generations. In this park you can see and study many lesser known trees and plants which belong to the Wet Zone of Sri Lanka.

Currently, this garden occupies a land area of 106 acres. It has a calm and quiet environment with a cool climate. We can see various species of plants with economical, aesthetic and ecological value.

Visitors can enjoy boat rides here. This park is an ideal place for a wonderful day out.
