Awareness program to mark International Women’s Day

An awareness program on “Violence Against Women and Girls” to educate the women in Jaffna, was held at the Security Headquarters in Palaly, Jaffna recently.

The Sri Lanka Women Lawyers’ Association in collaboration with Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna, held the program to mark International Women’s Day on March 8.

Over 300 women and troops of 7th Army Women’s Corps participated.

Brigadier General Staff Brig.Priyantha Gamage, Colonel General Staff- Col. Sylvester Perera, and General Staff Officer 1 – Lt.Col.Nishantha Muthumala of Security Force Headquarters Jaffna and Swarna Jayaweera- President, Ruchira Gunasekera-Vice President, Mihiri Fernando-Treasurer and members of Sri Lanka Women Lawyers’ Association were present.

Former District Judge, Jaffna, Sarojani Illangovan, Legal Officer, Legal Aid Commission of Jaffna, Robinsa Nakkeeran, Former President of SLWLA, Padma de Silva, Senior Attorney-at-Law, SLWLA, Nalini Kaneshayogan and Vice President of SLWLA, Ruchira Gunasekera were the resource persons.
