Asian Grammar School (AGS) is an eco-friendly school that has been advocating love of the environment since its inception. The school has been involved in diverse projects ranging from annual Shramadhana campaigns, to preparing a sound environment for disposal of waste around the school neighbourhood. 'Eco Thrift' is an annual trademark event held in affiliation with ENO Environment Online Sri Lanka to mark the 50th birthday of the Principal, Managing Directress, Founder of AGS and President of the Association of International Schools in Sri Lanka, Mrs. Thushari Koralage. 
'Eco Thrift' was held at the Kumbalpola forest, Kurunegala, recently, where students, prefects and teachers planted nearly 1,000 trees to mark World Environment Day that fell on June 5, 2019. The project began with the registration of plants with a unique setting where no plastic was allowed to be used throughout the day of the project. The participants were provided breakfast to engross the strong local cuisine on traditional and natural ‘nelum kola’. Afterwards the Principal along with the visitors who shared the same birthday (June 22) came together to celebrate their birthdays by cutting the cake which was served on nelum kola.
This was followed by the highlight of the day's proceedings; the planting of trees. The participants of 'Eco Thrift' took part in planting the trees, that were brought to plant with the assistance of the Forest Department. Celebrating his birthday along with the Principal was special guest and politician Prasanna Solangarachchi who also planted his share of trees along with the children and Principal. Other guests included Lalith Gamage, a representative of the Forest Department, who aided in many environment-related projects which Asian Grammar School organised over the years along with two members of the Association of International Schools of Sri Lanka Mr and Mrs Nilam.
After representing Sri Lanka in the World Students’ Summit for Climate Change (WSSC) held in Finland during the first week of June along with two students of AGS, Chithuni Harinya and Anuhas Wikramasinghe, she was inspired to launch this project. Asian Grammar School through this project will monitor the trees and see to that they grow into strong trees that contribute to nature by 2025. The project spearheaded by Principal Koralage is a step towards endowing nature’s faith in humanity and a symbol to inspire change for generations to come.
