Former Daily News staffer Gaston Anthony de Rosayro, who was behind the popular column, the Last Laugh passed away at the age of 74.
He joined the Daily News as a sub editor and was subsequently promoted to the post of Provincial Editor. Gaston worked for the Singapore Monitor and the HongKong Standard and was once the Sri Lankan correspondent for the South China Morning Post.
He also wrote a series of columns on journalism for beginners for the DailyNews which was well received by the journalistic student community and fraternity.
He regularly contributed as a freelancer to the Daily News until his death.Gaston’s remains will lie at the Restpect Home by Jayaratne’s till 9.30 am today. Burial will be at the Catholic section, General Cemetery Kanatte.
