Teamwork and goal orientedness are key to overcome and minimise damage from disaster, said Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe assuming duties as the new Director General of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), on Friday, January 3. He requested the staff of DMC to commit themselves to protecting lives of the people.
A much decorated Senior Army Officer who has been awarded the Rana Wickrama, Ranashura and Deshaputhra Service Awards, he has played a leading role in disaster management operations such as the explosion of the Meetotamulla garbage dump; landslide at Samasara Kanda, Aranayaka ; floods in Colombo,Kalutara and Kilinochchi; and the Army armoury explosion at Salawa,Kosgama .
