The University Executive Officers Association has urged the University Grants Commission (UGC) to take immediate action to ensure the safety of university employees and students.
The Chairman of University Executive Officers Association, Deputy Registrar of University of Sabaragamuwa, Pradeep Rathnayake releasing a statement said that with the new situation emerging in the country due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, there is an uncertainty regarding the safety of university students and the staff.
“Students and staff members from various parts of the country have now entered the university system.
Also, all administrative and non-academic staff have been called in to conduct examinations and most of them are commuters using public transport on a daily basis,” the statement read.
The statement further said that the University Executive Officers Association expects that the University Grants Commission will discuss the situation with health authorities and take immediate action.
