Imported coconut oil samples fail second test

29 March, 2021

The unrefined coconut oil imported to Sri Lanka has failed the second test, said State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna.

Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI), the Food Safety Unit of the Ministry of Health said tests have confirmed that coconut oil samples obtained from the relevant importers are substandard. Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) re-tested the samples of imported coconut oil.

However, the test results released today (29) reconfirmed that the imported oil stocks are carcinogenic.
