Dilanka Shehan from the Army SC emerged the men’s winner in the 84th Two Mile Sea Swim in a time of 41 minutes, 33 seconds, held at the sea off Mount Lavinia yesterday while Galina Basnayake of Rainbow Swimming Club won the women’s race in a time of 46 minutes 16.00 seconds.

However, most of the swimmers finished in close proximity to each other to make it very exciting to watch.

She finished well ahead of the second placed PDH de Silva of Prajapathi Gothami Girls School who finished in a time of 41 minutes and 54.0 seconds.

There were also events for boys and girls in the under-15 age category to encourage the swimmers to participate in this major event that is held annually.

Lineth Jayasinghe a renowned swimmer of St. Joseph’s College Colombo 10 finished first in the event for boys under-15. He came in a time of 46 minutes and .02 seconds.

Ginuka Tharulya of Leeds International School finished first in the race for girls under-15 in a time of 49 minutes 03.00 seconds just closely in front of the second place swimmer.

There were events for boys’ and women’s teams that were held on the first day March 3.

The event was conducted by the National Aquatic Sports Union of Sri Lanka.
