Coaches receive allowances for Asian Games

Coaches of athletes who will represent Sri Lanka at the Asian Games to be held in China next month were presented with an allowance of Rs. 40,000 courtesy of Damro Holdings.

This allowance was presented to the coaches by the president of Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) retired Maj. Gen Palitha Fernando at their headquarters at Torrington Square.

In addition the coaches will be presented with a pair of branded deck shoes to be worn during coaching sessions.

Sri Lanka Athletics has planned several programs to support the national athletes and their coaches in the future as well.

According to Fernando the SLA is focusing on the Asian Games and the athletes also have been given an allowance so that they can obtain the nutrition needed to improve their performances.

Moreover, all participating athletes will be gifted with a pair of spikes valued at Rs. 100,000 plus a pair of deck shoes to the value of almost Rs. 2.2 million in total.

Presently, all coaches are guided by the director of coaches the experienced IM Ranasinghe who was a senior lecturer at the Kelaniya University.

He possesses vast knowledge of coaching in athletics having been a senior official of the National Sports Science Institute. He will accompany the Sri Lanka athletes as a coach at the Asian Games while SLA vice president Lal Chandrakumara is the manager.

The coaches are YK Kularathna, Sajith Jayalal, Susantha Fernando, Pradeep Nishantha, Asanka Rajakaruna, Vimukthi de Soysa, SP de Silva, AD Nandawathi, Daminda Bandara, Harijan Ratnayake, Anuradha Nanayakkara, Dilhan Aloka and Dilan Mendis.
