The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura is taking a bold step towards internationalisation by establishing collaborative partnerships with esteemed institutions worldwide.
The partnerships are set to enhance educational offerings, provide students with invaluable cross-cultural experiences, and offer a broader perspective on various fields of study. The FHSS has received a book donation from the Chinese Language and Cultural Centre, further enriching the academic resources of the university’s main library.
The FHSS is leveraging the power of international alliances to elevate its educational and research pursuits, aligning them with the nation’s academic aspirations. FHSS Dean Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda emphasized the institution’s commitment to nurturing graduates who are not only globally responsible, but also socially responsive. The curricula undergo continuous refinement to ensure that students are equipped with extensive knowledge and skills relevant to their fields of study.
A significant highlight is the recent enrollment of Chinese students pursuing a Master of Economics, contributing to the strengthening of global academic ties. The FHSS’s commitment to practical experiences is evident through its industry interaction program for Russian-language undergraduates. The FHSS is collaborating closely with JAICA to enhance the Japanese language skills of undergraduates.
The FHSS is introducing new degree programs in foreign languages, including Chinese, Japanese and French. The programs are designed to provide students with linguistic skills that open doors to international opportunities.
Recognising the need for quality language training, the Centre for Digital Education and Professional Development at the FHSS is gearing up to offer comprehensive language proficiency courses tailored for examinations such as IELTS, TOEFL, JLPT, and TOPIK.
