Italian Ambassador Damiano Francovigh promised to aggressively promote Italian tourists to visit Sri Lanka in larger numbers at a meeting with the President, Chamber of Tourism Industry, A.M. Jauffer.
The Ambassador said he will communicate with Italian Airline operators to explore the possibility of commencing direct flights to Sri Lanka.
During the meeting the Ambassador also discussed several proposals to woo more tourists from Italy to travel to Sri Lanka.
Among them was to call on the Italian Chamber of Commerce to promote tourism and investment to Sri Lanka, promote more FAM tours for Italian journalists to Sri Lanka to highlight Sri Lanka tourism potential to the Italian community, organise Italian language courses for Sri Lanka youth, provide training and promotional materials for tuk tuk drivers, tourist vehicle drivers, Jeep safari drivers and eco-tourism service providers.
Chamber official for the Middle East and European sector, Dr. M. Inamullah and national organiser Donald Rajapaksha were also present.
