President Ranil Wickemesinghe has instructed the authorities to further increase the number of those who receive Aswesuma benefits from next year.

Accordingly, the number of beneficiaries receiving Aswesuma benefits will increase by nearly 400,000 families next year and 2.4 million families will be entitled to receive Aswesuma and other allowances.

The Government has decided to provide other allowances to all those who receive kidney, elderly and disabled allowances in the families entitled to the Aswesuma benefits.

The Government decided on this at a discussion with State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe, Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayaka and officials of the Ministry of Finance.

Budget 2024 allocated Rs. 207 billion to increase the number of people receiving Aswesuma benefits and also to pay them other benefits.

Aswesuma applications will be issued from next month and a new system will be introduced to correct the technical errors that occurred last time in the computerisation of applications.
