Sri Lanka lose to India but qualify for next stage

Sri Lanka boys’ team finished second in the under-14 ITF World Junior Asia-Oceania tennis tournament held at the SLTA courts at Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha Colombo yesterday.

In the final match, they lost to India 2-nil to the disappointment of the Sri Lanka supporters. However, Sri Lanka and India have qualified to the next stage of the tournament to be held in Malaysia next month.

Sri Lanka’s players Risith Somaratne of Ananda College and Ashlin de Silva of St. Peter’s College lost to their opponents from India.

Earlier, they beat Kyrgyzstan in the semi-final 2-nil.

The girls’ team finished in fourth place having lost twice in the tournament and failed to qualify to the next round.

The girls’ team comprised of Sandithi Usgodaarachchi and Akesha Silva.
