The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs will take legal action against the person in robes named Meewanapalane Siridhammalankara, who is accused of trying to create a social crisis and serious division in Buddhist society by distorting the Buddhist teachings in the Tripitaka.

This was referred to the CID by the Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana and the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs will also inform the Chief Prelates about the steps taken by the Government in this connection.

Siridhammalankara who is accused of spreading false ideologies about the Therevadhi Pali Tripitaka, distorting the character of the Buddha’s life and Buddhist teachings, has had his Samanerahood cancelled and expelled from his sect.

The Chief Prelates of the three Chapters has informed the Government that the person in question is part of a long-term conspiracy to distort the Buddha’s teachings and destabilise the country while taking advantage of the social status and other facilities afforded to a bhikkhu and misleading Government officials, lay and clergy alike, creating conflicts in Buddhist society and spreading false ideologies about Sri Lanka’s geopolitical structure. Several organisations including the Buddhist Information Centre have also complained to the CID in this regard.
