The Uma Oya Multipurpose Development project will be vested in the public on April 24 by Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

President Wickremesinghe discussed the Uma Oya project with the Iranian President in September last year when he attended the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the Iranian President expressed his willingness to visit Sri Lanka.

President Wickremesinghe invited the Iranian President to join him in inaugurating the project, and President Ibrahim Raisi has happily accepted the invitation.

The Iranian President’s visit was conveyed to Sri Lanka in January this year and the Iranian President is due to visit Sri Lanka on April 24.

Following the economic crisis, Iran provided fuel to Sri Lanka and in return Sri Lanka exported tea to Iran. President Wickremesinghe commended Iran’s support during the economic crisis when he met the Iranian President at the UNGA.

A group of senior officers of the Iranian security forces visited Sri Lanka on April 17 to look into the preliminary security measures regarding the visit of the Iranian President. The plane carrying the Iranian President is due to arrive at the Mattala Airport and he is due to leave the country on the same day, April 24.
