The Zero Plastic Movement Avurudu event, sponsored by City Cycle Industries Manufacturing (Pvt.) Ltd., better known as Lumala, was held at the Viharamahadevi Park recently.
Over a thousand youth participated to mark this year’s Sinhala and Tamil New Year without single-use plastic, setting a great example for others to follow. With a collective commitment to environmental sustainability, the festival showcased a harmonious blend of tradition and eco-consciousness, setting a new standard for celebratory events.
From traditional games to cultural performances, every aspect of the Avurudu festivities was embedded with the spirit of sustainability. Through collaborative efforts, Lumala and ZeroPlastic Movement demonstrated that joyful celebrations need not come at the expense of the planet.
The overwhelmingly positive attitude shown by participants is evidence of its shared accountability and the will to adopt sustainable solutions.
ZeroPlastic Movement is Sri Lanka’s largest environmental volunteer organisation driven to empower individuals through education and action with over 10,000 volunteers from across universities, corporations, and schools, actively working towards combatting plastic pollution through education and advocacy.
