India’s independence celebrations Speaker Karu Jayasuriya honours legendary singer Usha Uthup

“Symphony of Freedom” by legendary Bollywood playback singer Usha Uthup and ensemble was held on Wednesday, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Convention Hall to celebrate 71st anniversary of India’s independence and as a part of India and Sri Lanka’s 70 celebrations. The theme of the celebrations on Wednesday was 100 years of Bollywood cinema.

Legendary singer Usha Uthup has sung hundreds of popular film songs in 17 Indian languages over a span of 50 years, spreading the message of love, unity and peace. She has been awarded with the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards of India.

The event was organized with the support of Ministry of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka, Lanka Ashok Leyland, BMICH, Indigo Airlines, Taj Samudra and India Sri Lanka Foundation.
