The passionate artist

27 August, 2017

Mashi Miranda held her first exhibition in Sri Lanka, “The Heartless Artist” on 13th August 2017 at Colombo Racecourse. Living in Italy Mashi has quite an interesting story as to how she became an artist.

Mashi, like many successful artists has begun her journey in her small days. She says ever since she has been drawing and painting.

“I started drawing when I was about 10 years old. As a kid, I spent most of my time drawing. It was my way of dealing with loneliness especially after my mom went to Italy. ”

Expressing how she found happiness and peace of mind when drawing Mashi says that she draws whenever she is sad, lonely or even when she is happy. “That is how I deal with my emotions.”

Having done more than 5,000 paintings up to now she says that once she starts painting she wants to finish it soon and does not take weeks to finish one. However now she takes her own time since she wants to do a better art creation.

“I went to Italy when I was about 13 years of age and then later became a Pastry Chef. I paint as a hobby. But now it has become more than a hobby. It is more a part of my life now,” she says.

Mashi is now more in to doing portraits. She has done quite a lot of them already. She says that doing portraits is her favourite since she enjoys it so much.

“In my small days I just drew sceneries and cartoons as any kid would do. When I went to Italy I started painting portraits. Friends asked to draw their portraits and then I realised may be I am good at too. So now I mainly do those.”

Overwhelmed with the response received for her latest exhibition held in Sri Lanka she says that the only aim was to let people of her own country experience her art.

“I am glad that people liked my concepts and my art. A lot of people encouraged me. Thank you for taking your time off from your busy schedules to see my art. This is my first exhibition here. It was definitely a huge challenge.”

Mashi has done an exhibition in Italy and she says there too the response was excellent. “It was more than I expected. Italy is anyway popular for art and things related. I sold a few paintings as well although I do not paint with the intention of earning money since this is my passion and not my job. But in future once I start working as an artist I might sell my arts to those who appreciate it,” says Mashi.

According to her it has been only two years since she started to use Social Media and that she feels blessed to receive so much of love and words of appreciation from people.

If you too are a fan of art then you can follow her on Facebook and Instagram.

She wishes to own an art gallery one day and to allocate all her time for drawing and painting.

‘To own my own art gallery and work full time as an artist is my long time dream. Art makes me happy and it gives me immense satisfaction. I wish to remain an artist for the rest of my life. That is who I am and will be.’
