A review: Lake House Atlas

Lake House Printers and Publishers recently published the Lake House English medium Atlas authored by Sarathchandra Jayawardana, former Chief Project Officer of Curriculum Development & Planning, National Institute of Education Maharagama, a specialist in development of Teaching, Learning and Resource Materials under the Ministry of Education, National Institute of Education and UNICEF, Sri Lanka.

This atlas explores Sri Lanka and the World on fascinating facts about the earth we live in. Significant features of the Atlas include, guidance and advice by university professors, educationists, and technical experts in Cartography. It is meant to suit students as well as school curricula/ syllabus and is available at a fair price. It has several important collections of informative, colourful geographical images of the country and the globe.

The Lake House Atlas comprises 69 pages covering different subject areas of the globe and Sri Lanka. World maps from a distinctive category of the earth’s surface have been presented, covering the Solar System, a cross section of the Earth, Rotation, Occurrence of the day and night, Earth’s revolution and the different seasons. It also includes information on geographical factors, a political map, Ocean and Currents, distribution of population, countries affected by deforestation, Capital cities, currencies, and demographic data of member countries under United Nations.

The Atlas has focused on the global as well as the Sri Lanka situation and many other aspects to school children between Grades 6-13.

This Atlas is an excellent resource profile to students, educationists and the general public. published by the Lake House Printers in English as a teaching aid under authorship of Sarathchandra Jayawardana, approved as a school library book by the Director General of Education. It is an ambitious task by the author contributed to cater to the future generations of the country.
