Kandy SC thrashes Police 61/20

31 December, 2017

Defending champions Kandy SC began the second round of the Dialog ‘A’ division rugby league with a 61 points (8 goals, 1 try) to 20 (2 goals, 2 penalties) drubbing of Police SC in their match played at Nittawela yesterday.

The table leaders claimed an early edge in round two in what turned out to be a disappointing result for the Policemen. Obviously the cops weren’t happy with the result and what cost them the match was some real individual errors which they had to pay for dearly.

Kandy who led 28-6 at half time ran in nine tries through Wilaweera (3), Nigel (2), Richard (2), Danushka (1) and Cheeta (1). All the kicking was done by Thilina.

For Police Sooraja scored the tries and Sudath made the conversions and penalties.

Kandy’s defence was good for the entire part of the game, and their commitment and physicality in the contact area. Their performance at the breakdown was good and they have improved in the set pieces and were carrying the ball a bit better than first round games. They also built good momentum in attack.

Kandy was majestic and utterly dominant in all phases of the game, they completely rattled the cops. Once Kandy got their hands on the ball, they looked like kingmakers of the game.

By the final whistle from referee Ajith Kumara, Kandy was unstoppable and in full cry.

The two teams were introduced to former Dharmaraja College, Kandy SC and Sri Lanka ruggerite Indrajith Bandaranayake prior to the commencement of play.
