Thomians grab Under-17 Division Two cricket title

S. Thomas’ College won the Under-17 Division Two inter-school cricket tournament when they beat Siri Piyaratana Central College, Padukka by 28 runs in the final played at the Thurstan College ground.

Chasing 153 runs to win Siri Piyaratana were restricted to 124 runs as left arm spinner Thavisha Ranasinghe took three wickets for 14 runs while paceman Sheron Liyanage and off-spinner Dulith Perera took two wickets each. Induneth Fernando and Anuk Palihawadana grabbed one wicket each. Kavinda Ishwara excelled for Sri Priyarathana but his half century was in vain as only one other batsman, Heshan Fernando managed to post a notable score.

Batting first Vineth Bandaranayake top scored with 33 runs for the Thomians while Ranuka Perera made 28. Manindu Rabel chipped in with 16 in a total of 152.
