Trinity College led by vice captain Kavishka Senadeera due to the injury of the regular captain Pubudu Bandara, struck form with the bat as they thrashed St Anthony’s College by 58 runs in their 39th limited overs cricket encounter yesterday.
The result gave the Trinitians a series tally of 19 wins compared to 17 by the Antonians with two matches ending in no-decisions.
The first game was played in 1980 and the Antonians led by Angelo Liyanage beat the Trinitians led by Ravi Ratnayake.
Yesterday the Trinitians winning the toss on their home ground elected to bat on a perfect batting strip but made just 188 for 9 in 50 overs with Ashan Lokukettiya scoring 35 with some good strokes while Chanuka Kumarasinghe batted well to score 31 as Nimanaka Jayatilleke bowled well to take 4 for 29.
St. Anthony’s in reply failed to live up to expectations despite chasing a reachable target as they crumbled for a paltry 130 inside 38 overs with Chaminda Wickremasinghe top scoring with 30.
But it was some accurate bowling coming off the arm of Abhishek Anandakumara which destroyed the Katuagstota boys and their batting and for his superb performance were awarded the man of the match prize.
The winners received the Richard Aluwihare trophy from chief guest Charith Dumbarnage the 2006 captain, cricketer of that year and Ryde Gold Medalist.
