Sathsarani Sandeepani of Walawe Zone equalled the meet record in the women’s long jump on the opening day of the 31st Mahaweli Games at Medirigiriya yesterday.
She marked 5.44 metres to match the one set by Poornima Chathuragani from B Zone established in 2011.
Yamuna Sewwandi of F Zone took the second place with 5.35m and KT Madushani of D zone won the third place marking 5.26.
In the men’s putt shot D Priyalal won the gold medal when he threw 10.69 metres while Janaka Dilshan (10.59) and K.Bandara (10.47) took second and third places respectively.
The men’s high jump event was secured by Sachintha Dilshan from E Zone.
He jumped a height of 1.90 metres while Kavindu Dilshan took second place with 1.80 and Thilanka Madushan third place with 1.79.-(KR)
