Third term school sports to go ahead

9 August, 2020

Schools sports associations have drawn up plans to conduct their competitions during the third term as the Ministry of Education has taken into account the arrangements they have made to conduct events and tournaments.

The third term is scheduled to being on November 16. Although the Education Ministry had cancelled the All Island Schools Games this year, they are considering granting permission to conduct competitions from the third term but will not encourage sports activities on week days as students will have to cover their syllabuses.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) has rescheduled their season to begin in January 2021.

An official of the SLSCA said that the tournament format has to be restructured depending on the time frame. Over 250 schools are competing in cricket in three divisions in the under-19 age category.

The under-17 and 15 tournaments will be held next year.
