HNB clinch Super League netball title

A confident and determined HNB women's team led by Dharshika Abeywickrama put up a superb display of skills to beat Air Force SC led by Sureka Gamage 54 to 37 to clinch the Super League Netball Championship played at the Ratnapura Public Indoor Stadium on Friday.

In the play-off match Police SC overcame a tough challenge from Army SC to score a 28 to 26 win to finish in third place.

Trackmaster Netball Club withdraw from the tournament complaining about their team being subject to discrimination before giving a walkover to the SL Schools team.

Officials denied the allegation as false.

HNB took the lead 15-7 in the first quarter and kept extending their lead in each of the following three quarters and led 28-17 at the half time.

Air Force played better early in the second half to score 11 points to 10 by HNB, but in the final quarter HNB put up a fine display to score 15 points as against just eight points.

Sri Lanka player Dharshika Abeywickrama scored 50 goals for HNB while Sri Lanka skipper Chaturangi Jayasinghe scored 20 points and Madumali Sinhabahu 17 points for the losers.
