Electric bike for valuable player

An electric bike will be presented to the most valuable player at the Super 16 Schools Sevens Soccer tournament conducted by Zahira College at the Race Course ground in Colombo on February 29.

This tournament will see 16 leading soccer playing schools in action at the invitation of the Past Prefects Association of Zahira College that will be held for the 15th time this year as youngsters get the opportunity to showcase their talents, skills and abilities on a large scale. There will be three playing fields complete the tournament in time while there will also be a new tournament organized in the under-12 age category to attract more attention and spectator interest. Each of these teams will field eleven players. Zahira emerged as the champions last year while Zahira College Gampola were the runners-up. They have been drawn into Group A and D respectively and each of the 16 teams will have a sponsor that should inspire them to play well.

Speaking on the occasion, principal of Zahira College Trizviiy Marikkar said that the objective of organizing this tournament is to uplift the game in Sri Lanka.

The tournament will kick off at 8.30 am and is scheduled to finish by 5 pm while all facilities will be provided to every participating team according to the organizers.

Special prizes will be given to the best goal keeper, fair-play team, man of the match in the final and the most valuable player.

Group A: Zahira Colombo,

S. Thomas’, DS Senanayake and Royal

Group B: De Mazenod, Al Aqsa, Isipathana and Gateway International

Group C: Alethea International,

St. Henry’s College, Hindu College, Maris Stella College

Group D: Zahira Gampola,

St. Benedict’s, Wesley, St. Joseph’s
