Wesley College - a leading, Christian Boys’ School in Colombo was founded on March 2, 1874. Every year, the Double Blue Fraternity gather to celebrate the memory of their Founder, Rev. Daniel Henry Pereira –on Founder’s Day, March 2, which is the death anniversary of Rev. John Wesley the great Evangelist and Founder of the Methodist Church. This year 2019, Wesley College Colombo celebrates its145th Birth Anniversary. Founder’s Day is considered the most important event in the School’s calendar.
In the last 145 years Wesley opened its doors to provide education for thousands of Sri Lankan boys from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds, even though it was envisaged to be distinctly a Christian Boys’ School. Wesley College Colombo has produced many distinguished Alumni, who have contributed invaluable service to society, the nation and the world. In the past 145 years many brilliant Old Boys have lived up to the ideals and values of the Founders, bringing honor and glory to their alma mater through their professions.
The Founder’s Week celebrations this year will be held on March 1, 2 and 3 as follows:
Friday March1
8 am - Special Assembly at the College Hall.
4 pm - Hockey and Football Matches between the Old Boys and Present Boys at the College grounds.
5.30 pm the Traditional Principal’s Tea Party hosted by the Principal Avanka Fernando.
6.30pm Water Polo encounter between the Old Boys and present Boys at the College Pool.
Saturday March 2 -
8 am the Past Versus Present Basketball match at the College Basketball Court
9 am onwards the 20/20 Cricket Match Old Boys Versus Present First XI Team at Campbell Park
1 pm the Traditional OBU Lunch at the College Hall.
Tickets for the Lunch are priced at Rs.1,500 and can be purchased from the Secretary of the OBU Fowzil Nawaz - 0777900808, and Mr Jansz Manager OWSC at the Club House.
3 pm The Annual General Meeting of Wesley College OBU Colombo
Sunday March 3
8 am the Special Thanksgiving Founder’s Day Service at the College Chapel.
The President and Executive Committee of the Old Boys’ Union of Wesley College Colombo invite all Double Blue loyalists to be present and participate actively in the Founder’s week events.
